Abstract

The review commends V.V. Katermina’s monograph as a work that contributes significantly to the development of the theory of onomastics. It is emphasized that the reviewed study goes beyond traditional onomastics, offering a holistic perspective on the functioning of the proper name as an element of the artistic worldview. The anthropocentric approach allows Katermina to consider the proper name as a phenomenon that enables us to “read” individuals, their cultures, national traditions and mental models. The novelty of the monograph lies in viewing the proper name as a special artistic sign that has the ability to enhance the aesthetic value of a text and create, or assign, additional meanings.

Keywords

proper name, artistic worldview, national and cultural components, functions of the proper name in a text, anthropocentric approach, aesthetic value, onomastics
