Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk, Russia) AbstractThe article dwells on the development of labour potential of such geopolitically important areaof the Russian Federation as the Arkhangelsk Region. Labour potential of the Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area is analyzed using statistical data. A significant factor reducing workforce is the negative demographic situation in the region as a result of decreasing population, deteriorating migration situation and population loss due to natural causes. The author points out the impact of such a negative factor as decrease in the number of children and adolescents, which will inevitably exacerbate the formation of human resources, the consequence being reduced intellectual and economic potential of the areas under study. In addition, the paper presents an analysis of the total mortality in the Arkhangelsk Region in 2012 and 2013 as well as statistics on the level of unemployment in the Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area.
