Abstract
The article focuses on the obstacles for personality development of older teenagers and possible
ways of their overcoming by setting up individual learning routes. The author presents her view on the
role of the late teens in developing one’s personality that is capable of and striving for self-fulfilment.
The paper brings forward the issues of cognitive competence formation prior to specialized training. The
author substantiates the term “individual learning route” as a means of forming cognitive competence,
taking into account psychological make-up of older teenagers. Psychological and pedagogical
requirements for the model of individual learning routes are indicated. The core factor of this new model is the frame-based representation of knowledge. In addition, the paper looks at the efficiency of the
traditional approach to individual learning routes of older teenagers prior to specialized training.
