Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk, Russia) AbstractThe paper presents a theoretical analysis of the formation of mono-settlements in the Arkhangelsk Region, all of which had been built around one main enterprise. These enterprises developed in certain industries: mineral extraction and processing of raw material, forest and mineral resources. Key stages of Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill formation and its role in the social space of the mono-town Novodvinsk are presented. The paper analyzes the results of a sociological research on the attitude of the population of this single-industry town to its main timber industry enterprise. In addition, the article provides a comparative analysis of the results of public opinion polls conducted in the “mono-town” Novodvinsk in 1998 and 2008.Keywordsmain enterprise, timber industry complex, social space, single-industry town, social climate, urban environmеnt, NovodvinskReferences
