Abstract

The paper analyzes two legal documents: the 1649 Sobornoe Ulozhenie (the Law Code of the Assembly of the Land) and the Articles of War of 1715 to look at the changes in the judicial and legal status of the Russian Orthodox Church, its jurisdiction and various forms of ecclesiastical punishment. Common features of these documents are indicated, as well as peculiarities of each of them in terms of the question under consideration.
