Abstract

The author suggests that the Communist party and Komsomol socialization system of the “Thawˮ period shattered the hopes for social initiatives different from time-tested forms of social activities. The example of the “Klub neobychnyh vstrechˮ (“Unusual Meetings Clubˮ) and critical articles in the youth press shows how initiatives not challenging the Soviet regime could be interpreted by the authorities as potentially dangerous.
