Abstract

The paper analyses the results of a public opinion poll conducted in rural areas of the Arkhangelsk Region aimed to reveal the social potential of these communities. The author defines the “social potential” concept and expands on its structure consisting of three dimensions: trust, social networks and standards. Having compared the trust indices, the author set up a graphical model of the Arkhangelsk Region countryman’s trust radius. In addition, the paper studied the dependence of the trust index on sex, age and type of municipal district. Both negative and positive aspects of trust relationships for a countryman were identified; a set of values shared by the majority of the villagers was revealed. The research results confirm the hypothesis of traditional importance of the family in the lives of rural dwellers.
