Abstract

On the basis of archive materials the author reconstructs eparchial court procedures in the practice of ecclesiastical punishment in the European North of Russia. He considers competence of the eparchial court, legal framework and peculiarities of its status and functioning. The article presents some of the most interesting documents that reveal the process of performing judicial functions by the Church. The author presents an analysis of a number of legal sources of personal (nominal) character that eventually expanded judicial and legal framework of the Church in addition to the existing legislation.
