His local veneration began in the late 15th century, which is evidenced by the most important elements of a developed worship of an ascetic, which already existed at that time: veneration of his grave, writing of his Life, a special church service dedicated to him, his memorial day in the church calendar and his icon. From the very end of the 15th century to the first quarter of the 16th century the worship of Isidor grew to acquire Russia-wide significance. It is important to note that Isidor of Rostov was the first Russian Fool-for-Christ to be canonized by the Church.KeywordsFool-for-Christ, Isidor of Rostov, veneration of Russian saints. |
