Karelin (born 1952), a well-known teacher and historian who has studied the history of Russian-Norwegian relations. The main stages in his life are described, key areas and results of his research are characterized. V.A. Karelin is a prominent specialist on the history of Russia of the 19th and 20th centuries and the history of Russian-Norwegian relations. He has participated in a large number of international scientific projects with colleagues from the universities of Groningen (The Netherlands) and Tromsø (Norway), which resulted in the publication of study guides, scholarly articles, and a monograph on Svalbard.
