The review analyses key ideas of these articles, which are devoted to the problems of professional translation in the Soviet Union (throughout the history of this multinational state) and in the Communist Bloc (during the post-war period). The following are considered: the most significant figures in the theory and practice of literary translation (Chukovsky, Lozinsky) and their heritage, the ways and methods of regulating the work of translators by the state, as well as manifestations of disobedience and freedom through the act of translation.Keywordsliterary translation, school of translation, translator’s personality, censorship in translation, political regime, state control over translation |
