Abstract

The article covers the results of the All-Russian conference that took place on October 13, 2025 in Petrozavodsk State University and was dedicated to the centenary of Professor M.I. Shumilov’s birth. The author turns to the reports presented at the plenary session detailing Shumilov’s life, his path as a scientist and facilitator of university education as well as his heritage. In addition, the paper reviews the work of three conference sections where the participants discussed the European North of Russia during the crucial periods in the country’s history, as well as the socio-economic, cultural and educational development of northern territories.
