This article dwells on peculiarities of musical semiotics and analyses the mechanism of meaning generation in art in order to find the most adequate model of musical semiosis. The languages of art, using various means of expression, can influence the immediate sensual experience, thus evoking certain emotional responses. This purpose is more easily achieved by iconic, signal and indexical means, which establish a rather strong link between consciousness and the current situation of immediate perception. However, the languages of art push meanings beyond the framework of the current situation, thus forming abstract sensual images. Therefore, semiosis in art first occurs at the level of sensual experiences and only then can continue into the sphere of conventional signs. Further, the author considers the thesis that abstract sensual images are created through perception of the presently existing ones by means of synaesthesia. The latter enables us to form associations with experiences which do not exist here and now. Due to this, specific synaesthetic codes are created allowing us to transfer information based on corporal and emotional experience at a special cognitive level. Using signal and indexical means to produce effect on hearing, musical art can provoke certain responses, form abstract sensual images and create various codes limiting the field of interpretations. This is how the process of semiosis in music as а specific language of art takes place.Keywordssemiosis, art semiotics, musical art, sensual image, synaesthesiaReferences1. Aranovskiy M.G.
