Abstract
The paper deals with creative potential development in the current technological education at school
and describes teaching of this subject to middle school-age children. The author sees problem-based
education as a key condition for the development of pupils’ creative thinking. Shortcomings in the
technological education of pupils and elective courses are revealed. In addition, this article studies pre-specialized training of ninth formers and looks at the technological education of middle schoolage
children in the light of their pre-specialized training at a comprehensive school. Moreover, the
author proves the necessity of vocational counselling at schools in order to provide practical assistance
for pupils in choosing their future profession. Further, the notion of pupils’ creative abilities in the context
of technology education is specified. A model of the didactic system of creative abilities development in
the process of technological training has been worked out and its efficiency has been analysed during
an experimental check. The paper covers such teaching conditions of creative abilities development
as independent work, projects, modular methods in teaching technology, involvement of students
in computer simulation. In addition, the author has developed criteria to measure the dynamics and level
of creative abilities development in schoolchildren.
