Abstract

The study showed that the elements of substantive phraseological units (SFU) in English, German and Russian can be combined by subordination and coordination. The most common structural type is a combination of an adjective and a noun: “Adj + N”. It is noteworthy that, unlike English, the German and Russian languages have an agreement based on number, case and gender between adjective and noun. The following subgroups of this model were singled out: “abstract noun + qualitative adjective”, “concrete noun + qualitative adjective”, “abstract noun + relational adjective”, “concrete noun + relational adjective”. The common features of adjectival phraseological units (AFU) in the English, German and Russian languages are as follows: the presence of non-comparative and comparative AFU and scarcity of noncomparative AFU with subordination and coordination. The performed analysis of phraseological units characterizing disease and health in English, German and Russian revealed both similarities and differences in the grammatical structure of these units, the main difference being the way of expressing syntactic relations in these languages.
