The author analyses the origins and purpose of its establishment and names the leading scientists who initiated the Academy. It should be noted that the underlying idea was to integrate natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, i.e. scientific encyclopaedism. The paper describes the current composition and structure of the Academy as well as the research and publication activity of its members. Further, the author outlines the international contacts of RANS and notes its status as an NGO under the United Nations Organization. In addition, he dwells on the work of the Pomor Branch of the Academy and briefly describes the results of the meeting dedicated to the 25th anniversary of RANS, mentioning that a special edition was published to commemorate its establishment.KeywordsRussian Academy of Natural Sciences, innovations, scientific encyclopaedism, scientific communications |
