Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk, Russia) AbstractThe paper dwells on the social and pedagogical support provided to disadvantaged children bythe society and the state in the Arkhangelsk province in the 18th – 19th centuries. This type of support appeared here as a result of the dialogue of cultures between Russia and Western European countries and was a combination of the new (institutional) and traditional (family-based) forms of assistance to disadvantaged children. A brief description of charitable foundations that provided social and teaching support to minors in Arkhangelsk is presented. Special attention is given to describing the activities of charitable societies and institutions operating in the province at that time. Two groups of organizations are studied in detail: 1) societies that provided social and educational support to children by establishing charities; 2) societies that dealt with child beggary by providing them with financial assistance, finding work for their parents and protecting children from harmful environment, etc. Keywordssocial and pedagogical support of children, public support of children, forms of support of disadvantaged childrenReferences
