Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk, Russia) AbstractThe article was written following a scientific expedition of the National Park “Russian Arctic” with the author among the participants. The expedition revealed a number of cultural heritage sites located in the Arctic region on the archipelagos of Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land. As a consequence, the question of their protection arose. This paper highlights the problems of state protection of cultural heritage in the Arctic. The author comes to the conclusion that state protection in the Arctic should be provided through legal regulation. The paper dwells on the issues of constitutional, international law, criminal law, civil law, and administrative protection, their efficiency and possible application in the Arctic area.
