Lomonosov (Arkhangelsk, Russia) AbstractThe article dwells on developing the content of the Master’s Degree Programme in Translation/ Interpretation (Linguistics course). It points out the basic features of the new federal educational standards making it possible for a university to develop an optimal educational programme. These are: competences as objectives of the educational process and more freedom to the university in determining the content of the educational programme. The paper analyzes the experience of both Russian and foreign universities, bringing forward the specific features of translation and interpretation training. It advocates the applied character of the Master’s Degree in Translation/Interpretation, which is, however, quite difficult to implement in the context of the current federal educational standards. The paper emphasizes that the Master’s Degree Programme in Translation/Interpretation should offer a variety of specialities, thus enabling postgraduates to choose their own path in the sphere of education and their future profession. The article concludes with some central ideas for developing the Basic Master’s Programme in Translation/Interpretation at the Northern Arctic Federal University.Keywordsstate educational standard, basic educational programme, Master’s Dеgree, professional competences, translation and interpretation training, specializationReferences
