Abstract
The paper dwells on the adaptation of rural migrants to urban environment. Based on the data
obtained through a sociological survey held in the Arkhangelsk Region, the author studies those
resources of rural dwellers that can help them adapt to the urban environment more successfully.
The main question this paper aims to answer is: What set of adaptive resources should rural inhabitants
have in case of migration to the city? To answer this question, a series of problems must be solved.
Firstly, the author reviews the existing approaches to human resources in order to demonstrate that
any action has an underlying basis. Then, conceptualization and operationalization are carried out in
order to outline the semantic boundaries of the notion of “adaptive resources”. In the final part of the
article, empirical data are analyzed, allowing us to determine the set of adaptive resources of the rural
population of the Arkhangelsk Region.
