Abstract

The article suggests new approaches to the definition of «literary character», revisits the usual scope of this term and traces the historical shift of the artistic paradigm in Russian literature. The focus of attention is on the problem of «active-responsible» action which, according to the author, reveals the specific place of a character in the work as a whole.
