Abstract

The research has shown that the population of the European pearl mussel in the river Kozha have survived, but its numbers are quite small, and the rates of renewal are low. The average density of the European pearl mussel in the river Kozha is 0.22±0.14 ind./m2. The proportion of young individuals of the European pearl mussel is only 1%. Presumably the low rate of reproduction of the European pearl mussel in the river Kozha is caused by decline in the population of Atlantic salmon.
