Abstract

The analysis of literature and collection material of the expedition of 2014 allowed us to study the fauna of bumblebees of the Kaliningrad region. 25 species of bumblebees within the administrative borders of the region were revealed. They are Bombus soroeensis, B. subterraneus, B. distinguendus, B. ruderatus, B. hortorum, B. pomorum, B. muscorum, B. ruderarius, B. sylvarum, B. humilis, B. pascuorum, B. rupestris, B. campestris, B. vestalis, B. bohemicus, B. barbutellus, B. quadricolor, B. hypnorum, B. pratorum, B. jonellus, B. terrestris, B. lucorum, B. cryptarum, B. lapidarius, B. semenoviellus. The number of revealed species can increase due to the widespread species in the border areas of Poland and Lithuania, that are B. confusus, B. laesus, B. veteranus, B. schrencki, B. norvegivus, B. sylvestris, B. magnus. As a result, there can be 32 species in the fauna of the Kaliningrad region. In recent fauna we identified B. semenoviellus, which had not been noted in the region in the beginning of the 20th century. This species appeared in the Baltic countries not earlier than the second half of the 20th century, due to its expansion westward, to the Central Europe. Comparing the regional faunas, we found the lack of specificity in the bumblebee fauna of the Kaliningrad region. It is identical to the faunas of Lithuania and the northern part of Poland. These features of bumblebee fauna are due to the small area of the Kaliningrad region and general geological history of the southern coast of the Baltic Sea.
