Abstract

The presence of perennially frozen rocks is one of the main factors determining the stability of the upper part of the geological environment to the human impact during the development of oil-fields of the European North of Russia. It is shown that the termal regime study gives the accurate heat change characteristics in the permafrost and seasonally frozen soils. Its results contribute the methods justification of protection of frozen rocks in the maintenance of production facilities that are the heat effect sources. The results of the long-term observations show that the ground site fillings of the oil infrastructure should be at thickness no less than a seasonal thawed depth of 2.0–2.5 m, and a depth of pile foundations penertation should be equal to the depth of an annual thermal economy layer. In order to avoid the effect of thawing on the rocks in the borehole environment, it is recommended to place the injection wells on single sites in different parts of the field or at a distance between the well mouths not more than two radii of maximum defrost. To create a thermal-protection envelope around the water-injection wells, it is recommended to use in their design an additional casing pipe with a larger diameter to the base surface of perennially frozen rocks. Due to the fact that during the well drilling a significant amount of waste is generated, they are encouraged to be placed in a moisture-proof sludge tank equipped with special thermal wells, enabling to monitor the thermal state of the formation cuttings. Such sludge tanks provide the solid waste storage year-round in a frozen state, and prevent their negative impact on the surrounding rocks layers.
