Abstract

The paper describes the modern view at the mapping methods of processing and presentation of the regional economic information. The use of the geographic information systems in the economic mapping of regions is essential for the spatial analysis of the current situation and further adjustment of the problems of the territory management. The paper focuses on the issues of the formation and mathematical-cartographic processing of the information base of research, especially the choice of the method of cartographic representation, depending on the type of statistics used in the preparation of the maps. It is recommended at the map constructing to carry out a statistical analysis of the data, which is necessary for understanding their structure and features. It is noted that the study data ultimately determines the type of the resulting map, and the results of further analysis of the spatial area. For the analysis it is proposed to use two large blocks of indicators. The first block shows the region’s place in the overall Russian, the second describes the economic situation in the region. Among the studied indicators there are the basic economic indicators, industry, construction, agriculture, transport and communications, social infrastructure, foreign economic activity, characterizing economic processes. It is recommended to realize the study of the selected data in the structure "ArcInfo" ("ArcGIS" with Geostatistical Analyst module). At the final stage the choice of the type of the map can be done. There are the analytical, integrated and synthetic maps among them. Creating the regional economic description of the territory it is necessary to adhere to the traditional order of the construction of the maps: from the simple to the complex - from analytical to the synthetic maps. It is also noted the need to understand the functions of the maps as a communication system and to ensure the loyalty of its perception by the users.
