Transgression is understood as going beyond the standard interpretations of stable dominants in classical art (the mother prototype in this case) when their meaning and content are often transformed out of all recognition. On the example of two films conveying opposite images of motherhood, the author studied the specific trait of transgression in cinematography when a certain limit, thought of as a rigid taboo in a particular culture, is deliberately crossed. The study of transgression, not only from the standpoint of art analysis, but also in a broader, sociocultural aspect, allows us to deepen the understanding of the essence and specific character of modern art and its social role. The paper identifies the direction of the study of modern cinema, outlining the strategies and subject areas of transgressive art. Keywordstransgression, mother prototype, cinematographyReferences
