Lomonosov, Institute of Philology and Cross-Cultural Communication AbstractThe article considers reception of ossianism in the Russian romantic lyrics of the first third of the19th century. The North is represented in Ossian guise in sentimental-romantic tradition. The Celtic antiquity assimilates with the pictures of life of ancient Scandinavians. Quite often ossianism is perceived through the French poetry. K.N. Batyushkov and E.A. Baratynsky depict Finland as a personification of the Scandinavian-Irish North. In the Russian poetry Ireland, Scandinavia and Finland, symbolizing the North, are represented according to the canons of Ossian Songs by J. Macpherson.
