Abstract
The paper studies illuminance under the canopy of stands consisting of different forest types and species. It has been found that the amount of light reaching the upper canopy of forest plant communities is 57–67 klx. Stands retain, on average, 90–97 % of light. The amount of light decreases as we move to the soil surface. At the level of the moss-lichen tier, illuminance is 0.9–2 klx. Illuminance levels on the southern side of the trunk are higher than on the northern one. By area of phytocenosis, the highest illuminance levels are observed in the gap between the trees, while the lowest, around the trunks.
