Abstract

The article focuses on English oak (Quercus robur L.) expansion beyond the northern boundary of its natural habitat in the European part of Russia. Based on the analysis of field and published data, the author draws conclusions about the reasons for such an expansion. A significant contributor to this phenomenon is random unintentional introduction. It was revealed that the oak introduced in the north fruits rather well. A suggestion is made that, in the future, cultivated plantations will serve as a seed source for oak distribution and consolidation beyond the northern boundary of its natural habitat.

Keywords
