Abstract

The article deals with the transformation of administrative and territorial division in the European North of Russia in the 1920s–1930s. Key stages of this process, its objectives and results are described. A conclusion is made that the main objective of the administrative transformations in that period was a relatively rapid and radical replacement of the regional leadership (party leaders in the first place) with the partisans of the course put forward by Stalin’s group in the Bolshevik party management.
